Voting is a privilege, a right, and a responsibility.

The Martin County Board of Elections conduct elections, operate voting sites, maintain voter registration lists, and handle numerous aspects of election administration. The Martin County Board of Elections works in conjunction with the North Carolina State Board of Elections to ensure that elections are conducted lawfully and fairly.

The Martin County Board of Election shall perform all the duties imposed upon them by law, which shall include the following: 
  • To make rules and instructions for the guidance of election officers and voters;
  • To appoint and/or remove chief judges, judges, assistants, and other officers of elections, and designate the precinct in which each shall serve;
  • To investigate irregularities, nonperformance of duties, and violations of laws by election officers and other persons;
  • To establish election precincts, and to provide for places of registration and for holding primaries and elections;
  • To review, examine, and certify the sufficiency and validity of petitions and nominations;
  • To have ballots and other supplies printed for registrations and elections; and to provide for the delivery of ballots, poll books, and other required materials to the voting places;
  • To provide for the purchase, preservation, and maintenance of voting booths, ballot boxes, poll books, and other forms and equipment used in elections; and to cause the voting places to be suitably provided with voting booths and other supplies;
  • To provide for the issuance of all notices, advertisements, and publications concerning elections;
  • To receive the returns of primaries and elections, canvass the returns, make abstracts thereof, transmit such abstracts to the proper authorities, and to issue certificates of election;
  • To appoint and/or remove the board's clerk, assistant clerks, and other employees;
  • To prepare and submit to the proper appropriating officers a budget estimating the cost of elections for the ensuing fiscal year;
  • To perform other such duties as necessary for the purpose of registering voters and holding elections. 

The Martin County Board of Elections meets on the third Monday of each month (if necessary) at 8:30 AM.

An informed voter, no matter for which party, is a good voter.
