Martin County office of the tax assessor is responsible for the listing, appraising and assessing real and personal property. The department processes applications for tax relief and tax that may be granted under the state laws.

Each January the tax department mails abstracts to all owners of real property and/or personal property for the purpose of listing property for taxation. These forms must be completed and returned to the tax department no later January 31.
In the spring, after the board of county commissioners establishes the tax rate for the coming year, taxes due are computed on the basis of real and personal property owned. The bills are printed and mailed the first week of August. Through January 5th the bill is due in full. After January 5th (of the following calendar year) interest is assessed on the basis of delinquency.
State law provides for a reduction of property taxes for certain qualified taxpayers 65 years of age or older, and for citizens who are totally and permanently disabled. The county tax rate is $ .735 per 100, for year 2016. Our last revaluation was effective January 1st 2017, at 100% of market value. State law requires that a revaluation must be done at least every eight years. We anticipate our next revaluation to be effective January 1st 2025.
